This is how I would have done it in the film days. I basically have the type of equipment you mention so I will try it that way too.

I use this method when freezing dances in the studio set the shutter to anything from 1/30 to 1/60 f8 and adjust the flash the best part with the yn flashes you can shoot at 5 frames per sec on 1/4 flash strength and get 4 frames. then wait 2 sec for it to recharge, perfect for birds.
