Hummingbird males can be very territorial.  It sounds like you may have one that has staked out your feeder as his, and is keeping other birds away.  In my experience, they tend to have a few perches they go back to again and again, to keep an eye on "their" territory.  One afternoon spent quietly watching the little fella might clue you in to a few of his regular perches.  Then you just have to decide which one offers you the best light and background, and set up to catch him the next day.

Alternately, if you take the feeder down for a few days, he may alter his territory to include a different food source, so when you put it back up, you might see more than just the one bird.
