O Ring silicone grease
Jan 13, 2015
So i recently purchased a Meikon (rebranded as Neewer) housing for my NEX-5R and did not receive any silicone grease with it. I understand that silicone grease can be mistaken for silicone oil which has some sort of import restriction of some sort.
Anyway, i was wondering whether the grease is even necessary? I suspect it is not much of a problem seeing as they purposely left it out (the item description on amazon did not mention of it included in the box, where as the Meikon branded items do). I actually have some silicone grease lying around the house for use in fishing. I understand that some types of grease can also cause the o ring to swell and damage it and that it is recomended to always use the grease made specifically for/by the housing manufacturer. Although I plan to buy the Meikon o ring grease, it will take a good 2-3 weeks to be delivered and I do not want to wait that long to test out the housing.
Can anyone recommend some sort of grease that might work for the Meikon o rings?
Any information is much appreciated. Thanks.
