I have had my E-M5 since May 2012 and mostly have liked it. Much smaller and lighter for travel than the DSLRs that I used to use. In many ways it is very responsive like a DSLR and single AF is quick and reliable. There are several things that drive me up the wall about it though and my month in Thailand that just ended reminded me of those things all over. There may be an E-M5 II announced soon so I will wait to see about that, of course. I have also considered the E-M1, but although it is a very nice camera and fixes some of the things I dislike with my E-M5, it is bigger and heavier so for my purposes I think I will pass again as I did when it came out.
The E-M10 also fixes several of the things I hate about my E-M5 and now it can be bought new for less than $500 here in Japan. From what I can recall these are the pluses and minuses compared to the E-M5:
Pluses:
- 0 second anti-shock setting
Do you see this problem a lot of times in real life?
- MySets can be assigned to mode dial
Checkout the Gx7 as well then. I has C1/2/3 on the mode dial
- built-in flash (for a quick pop of outdoor fill flash)
Fair enough same story about the Gx7
- slightly smaller with a lower EVF housing for a more sleek, smoother top
I think this is a bit nitpicking.

But again the Gx7 then makes the most sense
- rear buttons have better feel and are slightly larger
Yes again liked the Gx7 feel even more in this regard
- buttons just above the LCD are better placed and easier to press
Don't like that for anything else but a rear dial to be honest
- higher resolution rear LCD
Just like the Gx7.
Minuses:
- 3-axis IBIS
- smaller battery with less capacity and a different charger
- not weather sealed
Does the E-M10 have the same slow wakeup from sleep mode as the E-M5?
it has a new processor i believe it's a bit quicker
Can the E-M10 still get banding with Panasonic 20mm f1.7? From my understanding it can, but the E-M1 is okay.
Yup that's becouse the EM-1 uses a panasonic sensor. More or less a modified Gx7 sensor. The EM-10 uses the Sony sensor also found in the em-5 and pen series.
Image quality wise they are very close.
I recently reluctantly bought an Olympus 25mm f1.8 to use for travel instead of the 20mm so this issue isn't as pressing as before, but it would be nice to be able to use my 20mm like I always intended when I bought it.
Then just get the Gx7 at todays bargain prices. You get a better shutter/video thrown in as a bonus.
Anything I missed? Any comments? Thanks!
