I thought that this might interest some. I was taken with my 650D attached to an Aldi reflector (Newtonian) telescopwe (AUD $50) using a T-Ring adaptor and 2x Barlow attachment. The telescope is 350 mm so I guess that's 700 mm all up. To make focussing and camera setting a little easier, I used DSLR Controller with a Galaxy Tab. A bar stool was used as a tripod as the telescope was "table mount".

I think that the image is slightly better than I can get with my Tamron 370 mm lens. It certainly fills the frame more.

I am not making any particular claims about the image, I was just interested to experiment with attaching a DSLR to an astronomical telescope.

it sure looks like fun to experiment with this equipment.

image wise, I think you would get a better shot with the 55-250 STM. at least the shots I tried with my 55-250 IS seemed less blurry.

I think that you are correct, a decent zoom lens may delivered a better image. As I said though, Iwas mainly interested to see what it takes to get DSLR images though a telescope. I would have to spend much more on the telescope for better images I think.
