I disagree - you'll get much better low light performance from a new generation Rebel body. I went from the 400D to the 100D/SL1, and the difference in ISO performance is MASSIVE. Noise on the 400D at ISO 400 is in my opinion about the same as ISO 1600 on the 100D/SL1. That's two stops difference, giving you much higher quality low light pictures.
