I just clicked Buy on a K-5 IIs. Cannot resist a fairly compact, well built, great IQ camera for under $500. The only thing I hate giving up is focus peaking. Otherwise K-3 doesn't seem to offer a whole lot more on the IIs.
Do you prefer K5IIS over K3 as many think 16Mp produce less noisy images than that with 24Mp of K3.------ regards.
Hi laith,
I think the IIs might be a bit less noisy, but the difference should be small. Maybe barely noticeable when looking at 100%. For me 16 MP is enough resolution, but I'm not against having more. I chose the IIs for the performance/price ratio. K-3 with US warranty is still around $900 for the body, and it's a complex enough machine that I don't want to take chance. Could've gone with K-50, but since IIs is only about $100 more and gives what I see as a real boost in resolution and dynamic range compared to my K-01, the IIs seems to be the right choice.
The harder decision for me was IIs vs Sony A6000, which is an awesome camera. Its AF is incredible in good light, and 11 fps is superb. In the end the Pentax's low light focus capability, dynamic range, and color rendering is what I want to experience.
Thanks, i also like Sony a6000 but it has not sensor stabilization that is useful with lenses do not have vibration reduction, also Pentax bodies have optical VF that some prefer.
Im still confused about which one is best for me as im still having K-x and also Nikon D5000 and sony A65. I like Pentax for it size and capability of using M42 lenses, but i see Nikon and Sony bodies have better Price/Quality lenses. also the focusing system is better and higher speed. K50 has the best Price/performance, but some reviews state that the K50 images are soft !! and that make me thinking of other bodies like K5iis, K3, Nikon D5300.
Nikon got a few primes that I really envy - 35mm, 50mm, and 85mm f/1.8 are crazy good. Sharpness depends a lot on lenses, as most of them don't resolve anywhere close to even the 16 MP sensors' resolution. Although DXO says the K-5 IIs and K-3 do give sharpness boost compared to ones with AA filter. So go without AA and get sharp lenses if you want more sharpness.
M42 lenses are fun to play around with. Manual focus is great with landscape, but when it comes to photographing people I find myself mostly using modern AF lenses. People are at closer distance and and any change in position/composition almost always require focus change.
Sony E 50mm and 55mm f/1.8 are great. Other than that I don't see any desirable lenses in their E line up. Their A lenses seem to be better.
I did a lot of research on which camera to buy - mostly because it's fun to do so. But do realize that at the moment there's no one camera body or system that will excel of all situations, so you'll just have to pick your priorities.
Thanks, i wish i can read more about your research of the best camera. regards.
