I own a Canon 550D since last 4 years. It has been working perfectly until recently. I used it in July for taking around 150 snaps, it was perfect and then I didn't use it for about 3 months. Anyway, I kept the battery fully charged by charging it once at least in a month.
Now, in October 23, 2014 I brought out my camera to take photos. It had a fully charged battery from last night recharge, memory card properly formatted in camera. I started clicking. First few photos went fine, then all of a sudden I realized, when I pressed the shutter key the camera didn't respond. I switched off the camera. But LCD didn't turn off. I waited a while and then panicked. I pulled out the battery. Then reinserted, it didn't fire up. I thought my camera was dead.
I thought it might be a battery problem, I recharged the battery. Then inserted it again and switched on. The screen lit up. I started clicking, but after few clicks, same problem came back. Screen froze and camera didn't respond to any key press. Again I repeated the procedure - take battery out, wait, insert, turn on. This time I was not lucky and the camera didn't quickly start. So I came back home and took the battery out for a whole day recharge. Next day I tried, the camera did turn on, but after taking couple random snaps, it froze up.
I bought a new genuine LP-E8 battery pack, formatted the Sony SDHC UHS-I 8GB Memory Card - 94 MB/s after several trying (being very quick to navigate the menu), reloaded firmware 1.0.9 via computer, checked the micro switches on battery door and card door. Nothing seems to work. Now even navigating the menu has become difficult as it freezes up after 5 seconds or less. One it freezes, I have to keep the battery and card out for half a day to get the camera started but it still freezes.
I am so worried. I love my camera very much, please help me find out what is causing this. Did I accidentally burn something?
