Re: Olympus abdicating entry level ILS market?

I must say I find Olympus's strategy of retreating from the entry level ILS market strange. It is not as though the OMDs sell in particularly high numbers.

A view of the mirrorless market in Japan clearly illustrates this point. Figures for 2013.

The Pen models were insanely popular in Japan, accounting for 25% of the entire mirrorless market. The OMD  on the other hand accounted for 1.2%.

Now all we hear when Olympus publishes its quarterly results is that the Pen series isnt selling as well as expected. But how they built high expectations on a fairly feeble product offering is difficult to tell.
