Re: @markintosh13 | A Lot to be GAIN by having a Low-End M43 "System" Camera

Here lies the problem with your over simply analysis. 1. A Low-End M43 isn't a point/shoot. While a retailer only makes money on 1 transaction in a point/shoot sales, a retailer stands to make Multiple Transaction in a "Low-End" System camera sales.

  • Camera body + kit lens
  • UV filter for that kit lens
  • more powerful external flash
  • a Portrait Lens (olympus 45mm f/1.8)
  • a 2nd battery is a must with mirrorlesss camera

I have several friends who purchased new interchangeable lens cameras in the past year or so. Couple Olympus, one Sony, couple Canon. Few of them have bought any lenses or accessories beyond whatever came in the initial purchase package. I don't think any but one of them bought a filter, flash/lights, or an extra battery. You've got to remember that the DP Review crowd is a very small minority of camera buyers. You can pretty much decide who's going to be a camera geek within the first week of their camera use and unless they have an external force driving their photography, chances are that whatever came in the box will do just fine for them.

So a low end camera really might as well be a point and shoot to most buyers. Sure, there are some people who have a ton of accessories to go with their low end interchangeable lens camera, but those people are also likely to have multiple, and often higher end, bodies.
