Re: Samsung NX1 Audible Noise and OIS Questions

OK. So I just tested my NX1 with three lenses.
- w/16-50mm S lens - There is a very low audible hum (sounds like OIS hum) when I put my ear near the lens. I shut off OIS on the lens and in the menu and I still hear it. It's not loud enough to be picked up in video, so I don't mind it at all. You really have to have to be in a very quiet room and have your ear near the lens to pick it up. I also tried switching to manual focus and still hear it, so I really don't think it's focus noise. The focus noise on this lens is the quietest I have ever heard -- nearly silent and perfect for video.
- w/50-150mm S lens -- the OIS hum is a even lower on this lens. Again, it does not go away when OIS is turned off or when switching to manual focus. The focus noise on this lens is just as good as the 16-50mm S.
- W/16-50mm PowerZoom Lens -- the OIS hum is a little louder with this lens. Again, it does not go away when OIS is turned off or when switching to manual focus. The focus noise on this lens is louder than the two S lenses, but still acceptable for video.
None of the lenses are perfectly quiet, but not loud enough to bother me one bit. I am curious why the OIS seems to be active when disabled.
Well that's good news and bad. Good that maybe this is either wide-spread problem, or by design. But it would certainly explain a limited battery time. I'm just used to Canon I guess, and they spin up when needed, but Samsung may have decided to keep them spinning all the time, then engage when time for faster response/ready time ... but that makes no sense, because the hum is there even when OIS is turned off on the lens. Why run the OIS and consume power if the OIS is not switched on?
I say all this assuming this is OIS hum (gyros), With no lens on the body, the hum is not there. Maybe a future lens update will correct this? [fingers crossed]
The "noise" is not a problem for me, and probably won't be for others. The vids I do are typically made for view only, and add sound later if desired. I can't say that I can hear the hum in any vids I've done where there was no wind.
Thanks for the feed back.
