NX1000 HD video shot with Tamron 80-210 (103A) - great lens & cheap!

Hi

I am very surprised by the quality of video captured by the NX1000 video and even more so by the combination with the Tamron 80-210mm (103A) lens. The telephoto macro (1:2.8 The effect of which I believe changes according to sensor size?) means that you are at least 0.9m from the subject which means that you don't have to trample anything to get close shots and you are rarely going to cast a shadow.

It is a heavy lens and completely unbalanced on the NX1000 and I have concerns about the effect of the weight on the mount, but having said that the camera was mounted on a tripod with the lens attached for almost 7 hours continually whilst being carted around the park where I shot my first footage with this combo, but I did notice when home that the screws had loosened on the NX adaptor that I had used that day.

As far as exposure is concerned the best results came from manual exposure. The aperture priority setting produces a flashing effect on playback where the camera adjusts shutter speed in stop values as opposed to a seamless rise or fall. My initial tests with the video on the NX1000 were disappointing as the auto mode demonstrates this problem a lot even with steady scenes, but once the camera was switched to manual exposure or using AEL I feel that the results are very good. The footage was shot in mixed lighting which occasionally presented a challenge with exposure and sometimes with manual focus on the occasions where the screen was in direct sunlight.

On the basis of the video quality from the NX1000 I purchased the NX300 with hope that the video would be superior to NX1000 but disappointingly I find it a lot worse. There appears to be a problem with compression on the NX300 footage that can result in "pulsing" when the scene contains a lot of detail (I bought two bodies and they are both the same) but more on this in a different thread where I hope to post examples when I have the time. So now I am hanging on to the NX1000 because I enjoy using it for video capture.

Below is the video, warning: if you don't like pictures of flowers then you will probably not like this video. The whole thing was shot using the NX1000/Tamron combination at a park in Northern France at the end of the season (30th September) and I was not expecting to see many flowers, but I must say how impressed I was with the selection of plants that were in full bloom. If you are ever in Caen, Normandy, France then the Parc Floral de la Colline is well worth a visit, I shall be returning in the spring with all the lenses! The video shows a few compression problems introduced by YouTube when it was uploaded but that is beyond my control, these artefacts are not present on the original footage.

Hope you enjoy it (best watched in 1080p):

Cheers for now!
