Re: And this is all the more so...

Great camera provided you only shoot RAW and want to leave JPEG on default settings. The firmware setup compared with cameras such as the LX7, P7800 and XZ-2 is seriously sub standard with grey outs some of which are pretty irrational. Any JPEG offsets for sharpness etc. which will be transparent in any other enthusiast wipe out things like face recognition. So if you want to up sharpness, saturation and contrast you will have to painfully unpick them one by one to get some options back.

There is no sign that any real investment was made in providing enthusiast level firmware for the camera. People have said few of the EX1 problems were sorted in the EX2.

I would advise any JPEG shooter to compare carefully against the competition. The ability of the user to configure the camera to their liking is extremely basic and causes conflicts. I am sure this is the reason for the lack of success as Canon and Nikon provide menu options to match the standard of camera. Also the EX2f was issued with bad barrel distortion which was corrected too late for the reviews. It is a mystery why Samsung produce such a nice camera but made absolutely no effort to write an operating system to compliment it. This is a key to why Samsung have not won acceptance as there is more to great cameras than just building good machinery.

But that's OK, because as is often the case, some cameras (regardless of brand) - that may not have had their due during their life-cyles - have now become cult favorites. I recommend again to anyone that may be interested - snap this camera up before they disappear. You won't be disappointed.
