The register distance of the Sony E-mount is smaller than the register distance for M43. Yo can only adapt a lens with a passive adapter if its register distance is larger than the target mount.

In this case, E-mount is 18mm while M43 mount is 19.25, so it cannot be done. E-mount is shorter than M43.

However, the other way is possible because M43 is larger than E-mount. I see someone on ebay sells an adapter to put an M43 lens on a NEX camera. Kind of stupid though, An electronic M43 lenses cannot focus or change aperture without power. Maybe they are putting on Voightlanders and other MF lenses.
