Re: getting a toy

Budget? No idea to be honest... We don't want a toy, but are not looking at the professional range either. Can we get a good body for up to 1000 USD if not at what price range should we be looking at? note: not only looking at the Rebel range. We'll be buying in Middle East or Europe.

Sunflowergirl:

You already have loads of good advice on what Canon EOS models to consider.  I have only one observation:

Long ago, I had argued emphatically against referring to any of the Rebels as TOYS.  Such careless labeling was always contrary to fact, and was said either out of ignorance, or high-end elitism.  [I started with a 300D also]

Back to your buying choice: There is no Canon EOS model from the 300D onward which is a toy in any fashion.  The questions of polycarbonate versus magnesium camera bodies was years ago consigned to the dustbin of irrelevant questions.  All currently available EOS DSLR's are excellent cameras.  I can't think of one currently shipping model which would not be a significant improvement over what you have now.

Good Luck,
