Online prints

I've read a great deal of comments on comparisons between online printing companies, ie Ofoto, Shutterfly, and Costco. Jack Michaud has done a great side-by-side comparison.

I decided to do my own, which is still in progress. I took 5 jpeg photos and sent them to multiple processors. I focused on people rather than landscape in these photos. I ordered 4X6 prints. Here are the results as they stand.

Ofoto
1. Very dull
2. Great resolution and detail
3. Great service, quick 2 day turnaround
4. Glossy only
5. Expensive at .49

Shutterfly

1. Received the defaulted VividPics, which were horrible. Awaiting reprints without the VividPics effect
2. Great service, quick 2 day turnaround
3. Great features and tools
4. Overall best experience
5. Glossy only
6. Expensive at .49

Walmart
1. Picture quality had too much saturation and contrast
2. Good service, quick 2 day turnaround
3. Limited features
4. Inexpensive at .26

Sams Club
1. Very similar to Walmart, but a drop below
2. Cropping problems
3. Good service, quick 2 day turnaround
4. Limited features
5. Inexpensive at .26

Costco
1. Suprisingly good prints. A little washed out but very good colors
2. Good service, slow 5 day turnaround
4.. Limited features
5. Glossy only
6. Inexpensive at .24

I am still awaiting reprints from Shutterfly, as well as new prints from Dotphoto, ClubPhoto, Snapfish. I can see that using multiple processors may be a good approach. Some focus on quality, some on price, and others provide different options such as matte finish. To be honest, I am not sure if one retailer provides it all.

I'll keep updating
