It costs nothing to play with the new models, it only costs when you buy the new models.  You need to look at the added capabilities of hte new models and see if htey add anything that you are willing to pay for.  Since you have had your current camera since spring I would doubt that there would be anything worth the pain of upgrading.  I would not plan on upgrading again for at least spring of 2018 and only t hen if there is something added to the models that are worth it.

My recommendation would be to go look at electronic book readers in stead, they are a lot cheaper then camers are.  There are three different models of kindles and sell for $75, $120 and $200.  The model is slected depending on your reaidng environment, get hte $75 basic if you generally read under a reading lamp, the $120 if you have a tendency, like me to read in darken environments and the $200 only if you need premium features.
