MZ 40-150 f2.8 vs ZD 50-200mm SWD - Prefocused S-AF Comparison

Note: The timings below were taken with the camera pre-focused to within a couple of feet of the desired target. Non-prefocused timings are found in another thread here: http://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/54801735

I performed a comparison test of S-AF speed between the MZ 40-150mm f2.8 and the ZD 50-200mm SWD using S-AF, single large AF point.

An E-M1 camera body was instrumented with a vibration sensor and time waveforms were collected while acquiring focus. The resulting waveforms were saved to MP3 files for evaluation in Adobe Audition where the time between beginning and end of each AF acquisition was measured and recorded.

A series of S-AF acquisitions were made, alternating between targets 78 ft. and 80 ft. distant. Both targets were in bright sunlight. Focus acquisitions were taken alternating between the two targets.

After several rounds of practice in order to collect repeatable data, 15-20 measurements per condition were collected and then averaged, producing the data shown below.

ZD 50-200mm SWD

50mm - Avg acquisition time 163ms

200mm - Avg acquisition time 458ms

MZ 40-150mm f2.8

40mm - Avg acquisition time 176ms

150mm - Avg acquisition time 246ms

With each lens pre-focused, focus times were shorter than in my other test and the differences between each lens were also smaller
