18-200 - AF is very fast (and very silent). Like really fast, similar, if not better than 45mm 1.8, whcih is fastest focusing samsiung prime (maybe except 10mm fisheye) However I think that increased DOF helps this lens as well.

50-200 - average AF. Nothing to write home about but adequate for casual purposes.

But 16-50 S is also very very good at focusing. I think you should take it as a benchmark, since it is an S lens, like 50-150.

I'm waiting for your AF test esp. since you have comparison with top-end Nikon. I would be surprised if Samsung is as fast as top-end 3x more expensive nikon with the fastest focusing lens in Nikon collection. I'm not woried about lens capability to focus but about NX1 algorithms, in the end Samsung is new to the fast AF tracking game. Buy let's see. AF to track my kid is the primary reason I consider NX1, even if I find NX30 performing rather good in this regard.

Thanks guys. This i the information I was looking for.

You are the first person to mention the focusing algorithms, and I think you are right on target. I have not used Canon since Nikon released the D3 and I tried it for movement tracking. The difference is with the Canon, I had to somehow manage to keep a single focus point planted on a face moving all over the viewfinder to have any chance of keeping eyes in focus. With Nikon (the D3 on) I start with a single focus point placed where I want the focus to be, and the Nikon algorithm is highly effective at maintaining focus there throughout a sequence. I typically set it to the expanded 21 point setting. If the 18-200 works well enough, I’ll order the 16-50 S. The reason I don’t want to use it as the AFC test is because it is so short. I very rarely use the Nikon 24-70 f2.8 for this kind of photography. Here are three examples I could find on this laptop (human sports and auto racing are easy subjects compared to these),
