MZ 40-150 f2.8 vs ZD 50-200mm SWD - Non-Prefocused S-AF Comparison
20

I performed a comparison test of S-AF speed between the MZ 40-150mm f2.8 and the ZD 50-200mm SWD this morning using S-AF, single large AF point.

I instrumented an E-M1 camera body with a vibration sensor and collected vibration waveforms during the test. Waveforms were saved to MP3 files for evaluation in Adobe Audition where the time between beginning and end of each AF acquisition was measured and recorded.

I performed a series of S-AF acquisitions, alternating between targets 5 ft. and 200 ft. distant. The 5 ft. target was in open shade and the 200 ft. target was in bright sunlight. Obviously, no attempt was made to pre-focus the lens before collecting each AF vibration waveform.

After several rounds of practice in order to collect repeatable data, I collected about 20 measurements per condition below and averaged the results.

ZD 50-200mm SWD

50mm - Avg acquisition time 649ms

200mm - Avg acquisition time 1190ms

MZ 40-150mm f2.8

40mm - Avg acquisition time 200ms

150mm - Avg acquisition time 467ms

While the above test only exercises one small portion of the AF envelope, the results are very encouraging.
