John, I dont have the G7X, but use to have the G12 great camera, i eventually got a G16, but to be honest liked the G12 better in some ways, from my experience newer is not always better, i have made that mistake before as well you know.

I could do with a compact myself, its a hard decision between canon, sony, fuji, panasonic, they all have there strengths and weakness. For me my decision would always be IQ from a camera and noise, i dont care for video or wifi, gps ect, its how the stills are for me.

Regarding the GX7, i have seen nothing that would make me want to buy it, the G1X2 looks ok, but then i think the panasonic LX100 looks great with great reviews decisions decisions.

hey, alan, thanks for the response. same here, i have been interested in the new sony alpha 7II for my trips so i don't take my heavy "L" lenses along. but once i use these small cameras, they feel like cheap chinese toys next to my 1Dx and 1dmk4 cameras, even my old 40D camera. i have taken some nice video with my G12 that i was very impressed by it. the sony alpha 7II looks very promising and i'll be waiting for the reviews to see what people think about it. i have also been eying the canon SX60HS for its long reach. but someone wrote the buffer in it sux badly, too much time in between shots. so, it is hard to make any decision which one to go for. i am glad you are getting on happily with your 5DIII

cheerz.
