Powershot G12 live view problem - Display oscillates between normal and mirrored
Nov 20, 2014
My three year old Powershot G12 has a problem with the live view mode of the LCD display.
When in the normal shooting position it will rapidly oscillate between normal view and a mirrored view of the scene, as if I was swinging the display out so that I could view it from the front of the camera, as if to frame a self-portrait (can I still call it a 'selfie' if it's not a smartphone?)
I think the fault lies somewhere within the mechanism which detects which orientation the display is in, but I'm unsure which part that is. I suspect the camera has an accelerometer for the electronic level to function but I don't know where that is. It would make sense if was on the circuit board located behind the LCD itself (see that board in this German language video on Youtube showing display replacement. Canon PowerShot G11 G12 Display Umtausch - Display Replace - Screen Repair )
The cable which passes through the hinge may also have have a defect.
Has anyone heard of this problem and know what the repair might entail?
Thank you all, Tom
