G12 Flash in Manual

I have recently started using my G12 a lot more and have found that when in full manual mode, with ISO, aperture and shutter speed set, turning the flash on makes very little difference to the final result. The exposure remains very dark in low light settings and the flash seems to fire at a very minimal level.

Once I go to just aperture mode or shutter mode the flash comes on full and lights up the exposure quite well.

I would have thought that with TTL the flash level would have adjusted to light the shot more correctly.

Is there something I am missing here?

Any help gratefully received (even if it shows I am an idiot)

Thanks.

Bob
