Note that as the focus distance approaches the hyperfocal distance, DOF increases more rapidly in the small sensor setup than the "equivalent" larger sensor.

It appears that despite the vast amounts of digital ink spilled over "equivalence", most discussions still get it wrong: The 2x conversion factor between MFT and FF only holds at short distances (macro to less than hyperfocal), and INCREASES (for DoF) as you approach portrait distances.

I now feel as if I've been fooled twice by small-sensor marketing! The first when I thought I was getting a 50mm f/1.4 equivalent (in the PL25/1.4 lens). The second when I thought I was getting a 50mm f/2.8 equivalent. For DOF purposes, an MFT 25mm f/1.4 is only 50mm f/2.8 FF equivalent at very short distances, and is f/3-f/4-ish for DOF purposes at common portrait/documentary distances.
