So Frustrated With Pentax
1

I have been impressed with the DA 55-300 lens. Then, in June, I took a photo with it in Tunisia at 170 mm, and the photo showed unbalanced weakness on the left side. This is from optical decentering resulting from poor manufacturing. The photo would have been one of my favorites from that trip, but was ruined.

I just purchased a new water-resistant version of the DA 55-300. It arrived yesterday, and I went to test it today. Sure enough, it shows unbalanced weakness in the corners at several focal lengths. Some corners are terrible, while opposite ones are fine. Again, this is from poor manufacturing. It is going back.

That's two bad samples of this lens in a row.

This is so typical of Pentax. The company designs a good product, then they shoot themselves in the foot with sloppy manufacturing.

Beyond this recent experience, I have had photos from trips to Italy, China, and Sweden ruined by faulty Pentax gear.

Does Sigma or Tamron make anything comparable to the DA 55-300?

Joe
