LX100. What questions do you still have?

Do you mean the camera comes with the removable flash? If it is, it is not that bad. One pocket has the camera and the other carries the flash.

Forgive me if this has been asked, I only skimmed through the 8 pages.

How is the battery life?

Thanks for your replies about the video record time. I just can't understand the limit at this stage in the vDSLR revolution. If it is about money, why not make a version of the camera that passes the evil EU taxes on to the consumer who wants this functionality? How hard can it be to make some cameras without the recording limit? Video is now a main feature of all the still cameras now...

I am not going to be able to justify purchasing this camera to replace my LX7 (which does recording unlimited in 720p60) due solely on the basis of the video time record limit. Panasonic, throw us a bone here! These small cameras are great POV cameras and POV cameras need unlimited time so you can leave them unattended.

Outstanding when you don't use the included removable flash.

Yes it comes with the flash and a handy little felt carrying case.

Can you mount a filter on the lens?

Does the camera come with a flash?

How effective/accurate is the zoom mechanism?

How many shots can you shoot with 1 battery?

Thanks

Yes you can mount a filter on it.

Yes there is a nice little removable unit in the box with a nice felt carrying case.

The Zoom feature is slow but fairly precise.

I did 5,281 :-O pictures and videos on Saturday with two batteries. I wasn't using the flash though.
Thanks

Did you mean to say "528" instead, perhaps?

I was thinking that's amazing that you could get that much done in one day. And then I remembered that compact cameras are often reported to give about 300 shots per battery.

But if you got 5,281…, that's awesome!!

No seriously I took 5,281 images and videos in a 2 hour and 45 minute span. I shot our local marathon with it and the GH4. I used two batteries so it probably got about 2,500 pictures and short videos on each battery.

Basically I was on burst mode pretty much the whole time trying to figure out what works best for Auto Focus with runners coming directly at you and then passing by as you pan with them.

Some interesting things I found were.

1. The panning image stabilization setting works great.

2. The Tracking AF works better on the LX100 than the GH4. It was actually quite good and fun to use.

3. You need to set the AF point well in advance with the tracking AF function. You can’t wait till the last second to set it. You need to zoom all the way out and set it while the runner is far off in the distance. It will usually pick up their bib number or face as the focus point and then track it quite well.

4. The skew from the electronic shutter is quite good for stills. I had some images that weren’t usable because of skew but I had a lot more that actually were usable.

5. AFC is better for objects coming at you. AFF is better when you pan with them.

6. The flash is actually quite powerful if you turn it up to +3. It will drain the battery very fast like that though.

P.S. my friends are really fast so I saw them all finish the marathon and half marathon in under 2 hours and 45 minutes. I also shot a picture of pretty much everyone who finished in less than that time as well.

So you didn't use a lot of power for the lcd, because so many shots were taken so quickly.

It's so hard for me to accept only a 75mm tele, which could utilize these features that it's good to hear work so well. It's good to hear that they do. I imagine the speed of the lens also helps the camera's internals see what's going on.

Two questions:

1. How do you use wifi to upload stills from the camera's card to iPhoto on a Mac desktop (running Snow Leopard 10.6.8)?
There's a lot of FZ1000-related WiFi information linked here

http://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/54404523
2. In Manual Mode, given the EV dial doesn't work - how would you get EV, i.e. to control the shutter speed and aperture, but override the Auto ISO setting in difficult lighting conditions?

Thanks.

I saw somewhere that it's limited, but wasn't sure if this was for a european version. Thanks.

Honestly when I wrote “Can you live without a flash?”. I actually forgot that the flash came in the box. I was thinking that it simply didn’t have a flash at all.

Now that I have used it I have a different philosophy. I see it as “The LX100 has a removable flash where other cameras don’t”. If I don’t want the flash on the LX100 I simply take it off. With other cameras I don’t have a choice the flash is always there. In most cases with other cameras the flash is there instead of a brilliant EVF like the LX100 has.

I would rather have the EVF and the removable flash than not have the EVF and have a non-removable flash.
Personally, I think all this talk about the EVF and add on flash is a distraction. I could live with the add on flash (if it had a tilting/touch screen), and the IQ was outstanding, which it is not. To me, IQ should be the first priority which nobody is talking about. I have yet to see one image yet, with great IQ and sharpness that makes me want this camera. The 75mm reach is way too short and the low quality/soft lens is a major issue and it costs way too much for the IQ it is capable of. I could live with an add on flash if it had 16MP's vs only 12MP's. This camera is way over rated for the asking price with its mediocre sharpness and the IQ it produces. If you think you want or need basic 4k video, narrow DOF with very mediocre still images, this is the camera for you. The lens was simply made too small with too many compromises, sorry but that is a fact, like it or not.
