Shows how we have very different views/ways of working. I shoot predominantly Street, Documentary and Travel images. I would always recommend and personally go for wider aperture lenses at any given focal  length. Allows faster shutter speeds which are often needed for this type of image, particularly as the light drops and allows you to hold off pushing up the ISO. Also gives that better focus separation with shallower DoF.

I find the 17mm f1.8 gives me all I need in that respect.
