Canon SX50 HS sees Airbus A380 at 35,000 feet

The SX50 HS is quite a remarkable camera. Olympus OMD EM-1 is my favourite camera, but the SX50 is in a niche of its own for 'value for money' resolution. In our part of Western Australia we don't often see vapour trails of aircraft at high altitude. The nearest major airport is 300 kilometres away and we are not on a main flight path from that airport. However, today the Canon SX50 HS was able to see an Emirates Airbus 380-800 cruising at 35,000 feet or 10 kilometres above us. My Nikon 12x binoculars couldn't pick the detail of the aircraft.

Canon SX50 HS sees an Airbus A380 at 35,000 feet or 10 kilometres high. Hand held operation.  Try 100%.

And the SX50 HS delivers great 'value for money' for stills and video of wildlife.

In my view, the only downside of the SX50 is that it is 'clunky' to operate without a touch screen. Unfortunately, the new SX60 doesn't have a touch screen either! I will hold off upgrading the SX50 until a touch screen successor arrives. However, if you don't have a SX50 and are pondering the SX60, it should also provide an excellent option in your camera bag alongside more expensive CSC and DSLR cameras.
