The Samsung S4 and S5 have an adaptive sound sound feature. You plug in a set of headphone and then are given basically a hearing test to map out what you are able to hear. You identify whether you hear the different frequency beeps and the phone adjusts sounds for that as best as it can. I don't know if other phones have this feature, but you might want to ask about it.

Android 4.4 also has accessibility settings, one of which is a setting that is supposed to improve sound with hearing aids.

The new Motorola Moto Hint might be worth looking into. It blocks sound from the environment when in use, but passes it through when not in use.

The main reason I bought a Samsung Gear Neo 2 watch for is the silent notifications. I miss a lot of calls because I can't hear the phone ring in my pocket. I don't wear tight enough pants for the phone vibration to always get my attention, or maybe I just am busy with something and don't notice. The watch vibrates on my wrist, which I seem to always notice, so now I get all the calls, and text message notifications.

Thank you
Russell

Russel that's really helpful, thanks. I'll check out if other phones have the adaptive sound feature.
