It's not easy to conclude much from such photos as DOF is so shallow hardly anything is in focus. Flowers particularly so as they have such depth. I found a subject that had some reasonably flat leaves with some detail. This is minimum focus distance of around 40cm - f/2.8 and f/4:

Here I backed off a little to allow a bit more to be in focus. You can clearly see the veil that is lifted stopping down from f/2.8 to f/4:
