thanks for posting.  One thing that will help is background on the film simulation modes the main ones are Velvia, Provia and Astia. Not sure your experience with film if at all.

These were Fuji's pro slide films. Not sure if you know what a slide was but I will not go into that.

The idea with these films controlled contrast and call it saturation or the look a photographer wanted.

Astia was a flat film meaning a more true to life film what you see is what you get. Good for skin tones.

Velvia is the saturated pumped with color and Provia the universal middle of the road film.

The other challenge was the films actual film speed, ISO/ASA  Provia was the fastest at 400 ISO, their was also a 100 speed if I recall.

Velvia was a 50 ASA/ISO, Astia was only 100 speed if memory servers

Point is this is the way I think of how i use the digital Fuji X and pick a film simulation mode.

Hand in hand goes white balance because this is digital and if you need to custom white balance their are ways.

Last, I would say choosing the best metering mode can also make a difference so experiment.
