Re: Sample Images

Ray

Opening night for the show.  I don't normally shoot live events but I had the GM1 there and the Nocticron.  I had a seat at the back of the hall where I was relatively inconspicuous and as I am effectively the "photographer" for the company I used that license to take some images.

What a difference good lighting makes!  I only go when invited and the new director asked me to shoot before the lights were up, the stage set and the actors in costume.  Even with my ostentatious huge kit I found it very hard to get anything decent, but I made do.

On the night the stage was bright, the set was in place and the actors in costume (of course).  The GM1 had no problems at f2.8 and 320 ISO - just a bit too far away, alll images will have to be cropped.  I wished I had taken the brand new 35-100mm f2.8.

Of course the GM1 was small and inconspicuous and silent, even with the Nocticron, pity about the lcd but I don't think I was a particular nuisance.

I have done quite a few shows over the years but I will now refuse to do a shoot in future without proper lighting being in place - just too hard and a whole lot more work to get acceptable images.  The horsepower of big kit can only go so far.

I am sure that even the A7R will "work" much better when the lighting is good.

I have not taken the images off the camera as of yet but I think that they should be quite adequate - just depends how well they crop.  Cerainly I doubt if I can crop right back to individuals.  From the back of the theatre the Nocticron was giving me full stage and a it more.

Will put up a sample later.
