700D - any disadvantages to using ACR (via DNG) compared to Canon's DPP?

Hi all

I'm going to start testing saving as RAW and my version of Photoshop (CS5.5) doesn't read the .cr2 files from my camera, so I am going to convert them to DNG first. Which made me wonder;

  1. Am I missing out on anything by using ACR (via DNG) rather than using Canon's own Digital Photo Professional software to process the files?
  2. Assuming I use ACR, is there any reason to keep the .cr2 file as well as the DNG file? Space-wise just keeping one would be ideal!

thanks,

Bob
