I have to respectfully disagree with some of the previous responses.

The camera manuals, at least all the manuals I've read, and after 40+ years that's a lot of them, are written in Japanese/Chinese and translated to English, and frequently things get lost in translation.

I have quiet a few Magic Lantern Guides, even co-wrote one about a hundred years ago, and I find them very helpful in explaining things in a photographer-to-photographer voice that the technical manuals usually fail miserably at.

The caveat here of course is that some people learn better/faster by simple practice while others are better served by the printed word.  Of course doing both is almost always better.

If you are one who learns well from the printed page, and you probably already know if you are, then a guide book is a worth while investment.
