I have to agree on all points except one. This lens isn't a fast focuser - it's a lightning fast focuser! I don't think I have ever had a lens focus as fast as the 17/1.8. This is a magnificent lens and certainly worthy of having in your kit all the time.

This is an "initial impressions" review, and so far I really like this lens. Previously, for 17mm, I had been using the well regarded Panasonic 14-45 and it was ok. This lens is noticeably better, sharper across the frame at the same aperture, with what looks like nicer contrast. Compared to my 25 1.8 it seems to have a little better contrast as well, and is equally sharp.

I know this lens hasn't tested as well as the other primes, but that's not what my eyes are telling me, processing the raws in Lightroom.

A few more things I noticed....

-Solid build (I don't have the 12, but assume it's similar)

-Stays very sharp at f8 as far as my eyes can tell.

-CA is well corrected in Lightroom

-Looks cute, like an old manual lens, except for the odd small entrance pupil

-Fast focuser, perhaps a little better than the 25 1.8.

-Manual clutch ring is fun, but it could be more solid (twists a little if you push or pull using only one side.

-No hood, which is just plain stupid. Ordered the knock-off. This is the only reason I'm deducting half a star, out of spite.

A couple early samples....

100% crop when expanded
