Re: Basic Photoshop settings for RAW JPEG conversion.. EX2F?

Ok, (looking down at shoes) I may have been a bit hasty and panicked.

This is not my old point and shoot.  It will force me to pay attention since even auto modes can go south pretty quickly without care.

Here are two shots taken moments apart using monopod.

First is "smart" mode with all menu options defaulted to auto or baseline. ND off.  Background is hazy and overexposed, but overall looking much better.

Second is RAW in Program mode.  ND off.  IS off.  Cleaned up basic noise and exposure in Faststone Image Viewer just to get it done simply without all of the potential wrong turns and pitfalls associated with Photoshop in the hands of a beginner.  I'll learn as time permits.

This is looking a lot more like I was after.  But it's a lot of work. Not up to most of your standards but many times better than I was getting yesterday already.   It's a lot more work to get images that I expected right out of jpeg in the older camera.  Of course I was never doing much crop or large print so all looked just fine on my laptop and the web.

Hopefully much of this will become second nature to me and allow me to experiment with more of the manual settings, depth of field,  flash options, etc.   I'm closer anyway to a decision to work with this camera.
