When to Upgrade?
When to Upgrade?
Sep 26, 2014
I will probably keep using my Canon SX30 for another few months to a year, but how do you decide when to upgrade and with what?
- The SX40 fixed the chromatic aberration with in-camera firmware.
- The SX50 gave more reach and IQ.
- The SX60 gives even more reach and a better EVF and we'll find out more over the next few months.
- "Larger sensor bridge zoom is coming" (SHood) http://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/3727170
dv132 speculated that the "larger sensor bridge" might be announced at Photoplus NY [Oct 29/14] or CES Las Vegas [Jan 6/15]. http://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/54430870
My tentative plan is to wait until the Canon larger-sensor bridge comes out and then choose among:
- good deal on SX50
- SX60 (Possibly a boxing week sale but maybe not in time to know about the "large-sensor bridge".)
- Canon larger-sensor bridge zoom, if it has at least 600 mm equivalent F.L. (I would rather see see something less than a 1" sensor to get 800 mm equivalent F.L.)
- Other manufacturer? [Panasonic FZ1000, but 400 mm effective F.L. means giving up a lot.]
