Two years ago, I really wanted to update my LX5 to LX7 and my XZ1 to XZ2 or Stylus 1, but I just couldn't do it because the EPM2 made the value proposition too wacky for me. The EPM2 plus lens was less than half the price of any of the compacts, so I had to keep waiting for the compact prices to fall.
They never fell enough, so I finally bought a new EPM2 plus 14-42 for less than $200. It takes great pictures, better than any of the compacts, but doesn't have the same 'fun' factor as a true compact.
Now it sits in my bag, daring me to even think about the new LX100. That is a camera that I would really like to get. It has the multi aspect sensor, which I really like, plus (hopefully) a great lens. The benefits of the terrific LX series of cameras with m4/3 sensor.
But the EPM2 mocks me - $899 for the LX100 vs $199 for the EPM2. And they appear to be about the same size, so no benefit there. And I can use ANY lens with the EPM2, including the tiny GM1/GM5 lenses.
Darn EPM2 - it just makes it hard to justify spending more than $199 on any new camera.
The EPM2 is one heck of a capable camera. Small, light and with wicked IQ its a bargain . It has its shortcomings but most can be worked around.
