Is it possible to determine between say a battery that came with the camera almost three years ago and one purchased this year, which is which?

I got them mixed up and want to know which one is the newer one since it probably has the better runtime.

I found some number on the back of it where the label is, looks etched into the plastic. Does anyone know if this number increases with every battery manufactured?

I had a theory several years ago that one of the digits in the batch code, probably the 1 in "K1GUG" indicated the year of manufacture. In this case, the 1 would indicate 2011. A 2 would indicate 2012, and so on...  For warranty purposes, Sony could afford to keep the batteries in inventory for about three years before they had to pull them due to reduces performance so 1 digit would be sufficient.

The five batteries I have conform to, but don't prove this theory.
