It's the penalty you pay for a wider and much longer focal length if the price and size is kept reasonable.   However, the later models do have in-camera correction for chromatic aberration which ruined a number of bird shots for me with my S5IS.  The SXS1 was a little better with CA than the S5IS; but the Panasonics had CA correction beginning with the FZ28, and fewer problems with blown highlights.

Take a look at the FZ200 specifications compared to your SX1.  That's the route I took after returning an SX40HS.

I do note that used SX1 have a much better resale value than other Canon superzooms of that era.
