Olympus E-P5 hard reset? Is my camera dead?

Hi folks,

Is there a hardware reset function for the Olympus E-P5 that I can activate at power-up? I seem to get half way there by holding the OK button at power up, but not all the way there.

Situation: The camera worked fine on Saturday. I powered it up on Sunday morning and I get this:

  • Rear LCD activates with blurry screen, but absolutely no information text or icons
  • Aperture blades rattle (rattlesnake sound)
  • Screen goes blank
  • Camera unresponsive

If I hold the OK button when I power on, I get the same behavior, except I briefly get some information text and icons, including a blinking red IS-1 icon. I may have a dead camera, but I'm looking for some sort of hardware-based reset before I pursue this any further.

I would try the menu-based reset function, but I cannot get that far before the camera becomes unresponsive. It seems that pressing any button after the aperture blade rattling causes the camera to shut down.

When I power down, the aperture blades rattle again before the power goes off completely.

Oh, yes, I've tried different lenses, no lens, different SD cards, no SD card, different batteries, and left the battery out of the camera all night. This morning (Monday) I still see the same behavior.

Sigh.
