Jim, many thanks for your words, very appreciated
to be honest D Cox has expressed is feeling…
I may agree on the claim "visual arts are about things that cannot be expressed in words", but, to me, this does not imply that one cannot discuss about images, painting, or sculptures (as art critics do, hopefully, in less emphatic way), or express feelings, emotions, etc.
same holds for music, dance, cinema, performances, etc.
Ah, but visual art is a language in its own right. People who cannot find the words to express what it is they see in visual art just have not stopped to concentrate on developing the skills to find the words and put that into practice. The choice is for the viewer of the art to make.
My view is that there are more "worldly" languages than just mere words at times.
I myself I'm often lazy, sometimes I feel embarrassed, in giving feedbacks on photos. Discussions on images are more difficult than discussions on technics, I think. Images are so personal, so subjective, it's hard to argue on defects or qualities.
We have a lot in common, Claudio. I also have difficulty in offering feedback.
I think that one of the roles of forums is to create a community, a group of persons that starting knowing each other may engage in more difficult discussions. I'm not a professional photographer (I'm a walker more than a photographer, my goal is to walk, photos are lucky encounters),
To me, lucky encounters are few and I consider them to be more of a privilege and an opportunity to share with others, to hopefully encourage people to move forward from just looking and entering the realm of seeing and thereby appreciating.
I don't have to advertise or to sell my images. For a long time I shared my images only with a small group of friends. They pushed me to create a website, and I decided to post in this forum because I read it regularly, I feel a little bit at home. I would like to give back something (I learned a lot from the members of this forum, but I have nothing to say about technics).
Yes, technical discussions I need to leave to others too.
I enjoy to take pictures and to create galleries, but discussions and feedbacks are one of the means to progress (even though I'm sure I will not necessary follow all the criticisms). It's so hard to take a step back from the images you have created, chosen, processed, etc. criticisms or likes, comments or discussions, can help to look at your images in a different way, and this is interesting
Like another poster here, I too feel encouraged and buoyed by your creations. They touch my heart.
ciao
(sorry for my english)
No need to apologize, my friend, You write well. I too come from a non english speaking background, but more fortunate than you, I migrated to an english speaking country.
