With regards to lenses - what's the best value fast wide angle? Preferably less than 14mm I have now. I can only really find $700 lenses. Willing to spend $300ish on something good if that's an option?

First of all, you can use the kit lens to take photos of kids indoors. And the photos will be much better than anything you got from your prior camera. The problem with advice from a gear forum is the advice always says to go buy the most expensive exotic new gear. You do not need it!

Second, it would be foolish to even think about a new lens when you don't even know if you want this camera.

Your first mistake was to blame the camera for your lack of knowledge, a very common mistake. You now have two choices - spend a little time figuring things out and then reaping the rewards of an advanced camera system. Or deciding this isn't for you and returning to a point and shoot camera. If you decide to keep the EPM2, then don't buy anything else. Just use the kit lens until you are good enough with it that you are ready to try a different lens because you WANT to. Not because the gearheads say you NEED a different lens.

Agreed don't buy a new lens. Learn to use yours.
