Hi, I'm just an estimated amateur, that loves shooting with good quality. Receantly I lost my so precious g11 while hiking, so now I have to make a decision for a good almost pocket size camera and I'll be glad to recieve some pro advices.

The things that differ at a glance are:

The Sony has an EVF (which I prefer) and the Canon has a very basic OVF.

The Canon has a wider zoom range and much wider aperture if you stick with the Sony kit lens.

The Sony is much bulkier with the kit zoom fitted

The Sony has a much bigger sensor and interchangeable lenses. These are possibly important if it will be your only camera.

I bought a G15 as my carry anywhere camera because I can put it in a shirt pocket. I wouldn't want to put the Sony in a trouser pocket, let alone a shirt.

The Sony has extremely fast auto-focus, much better than the G15 (which I owned.) The EVF is a definite advantage over the Canon's OVF (which isn't all that accurate for the most part.)

You have to have BIG shirt pockets to carry a G15 in them.

Have you considered the Panasonic LX7? I sold my G15 for the LX7 and never looked back. It runs rings around the G15 if you can live with the shorter zoom range at the long end (24-90mm).
