Why are 8x10 prints/frames still popular?
1

I can understand that when medium format was the in thing, the 4x5 ratio meant that people wanting to frame their high school photos would naturally buy a 8x10 frame for the photo to fit into.

But why these days, when the most popular sizes are 2x3 or 4x3?

I get so annoyed when any of the printing labs I use send me their special "holiday offers" for big discounts off standard size prints/frames, of which 8x10 is a very common one. I shoot mostly 2x3, so I would have loved a 8x12 sale, but that never happens. I cannot use a Walmart frame because again, they are 8x10 or matted to 8x10. Unless of course, I am willing to crop every one of my pictures...

Of course I might just be ignorant and there are tons of people out there receiving 4x5 aspect digitals that they are just dying to print, and if so I'd love to hear about it!
