Bad start to my pro relationship with Fuji - f0 error - a growing concern

I very recently changed from a pro Nikon shooter of 25 years to Fuji, just starting to love the camera.

On frame 1700 approx in this new camera, the f0 error starts to manifest itself. It's not the contacts or the lenses.

The camera then freezes and becomes inoperable. Completely.

The camera starts fine, works a while. The minute you review an image, the camera lens moves a bit and when you try and shoot again, it displays f0. It's not dirty contacts, and it's not the lenses. Same behaviour on all the lenses.

Taken out the battery, etc etc. All the old and usual tricks.

If you go do a firmware check, camera firmware registers correctly as 1,10 - ALL the lenses show Firmware as 0, even the 23 1,4 for which there is no update says "Firmware upgrade error - contact a service center"

I am resolute that I am not having a few week old camera opened and the waterproofing tampered with for what is clearly not a user error. Fuji will have to replace - but I see a fight looming..

I think this started as an isolated error with a few isolated cases... but I think there are probably quite a few latent issues out there. I would appeal to all Fuji X-T1 users who have experienced this issue to add to this thread which I will also at the Fuji Forum.

Love this camera but feeling very disappointed right now.

Interesting - leave the camera off for a few hours - and on start up it works again - for about 15 frames and 3 or four chimping reviews - and then viola - review some more pics, and the whole thing freezes up agin and dies.....

I suppose we could step back in time 50 years and eliminate all the electronics in our cameras and lenses. That's the only way to be certain you will not have electronic failures. But mechanical parts are subject to failure as well. If it's man made, it going to break at some point in time. Let's all go to pinhole cameras. Not much to break there.

Electronics are incredibly helpful, but they shouldn't be left on their own. Things break down far easier when a bit of dust, or moisture enters a camera, if all that's there is electronics. The fact is that this sort of error couldn't happen, or couldn't ruin a photo session if the lens had mechanical parts. Hate them or love them, Nikon's lenses are fully electronically controlled, but still rely on reliable helicoids and mechanically controlled aperture irises.

The Fujifilm XF lenses LOOK like older lenses. They ACT like point and shoot lenses, even automatically closing down, retracting to infinity. I wish the new Zeiss line would come to Fujifilm. I want to use native lenses, but I don't dare invest.

It is more expensive to build mechanical parts, but by having reliable redundancies, as well as contemporary tech, you are nearly ensured to be able to keep on. Especially since the bokeh of certain Fujifilm lenses is so nice, adding to that utility mechanical reliability would be wonderful, especially considering the XF lenses LOOK like mechanical lenses.

I don't have any non Fuji lenses for the camera. What I can tell you is that if I put the camera in to Manual mode and try and focus, nothing happens. It remains blurry.

Should we post something equally unhelpful when you have a question?

Sounds like an issue with the contacts to me.

When something goes wrong, you really need to contact the manufacturer ASAP.

They are the only people who can sort this out for you. The sooner, the better.

Are you foar from the nearest Fuji service centre?

Please let us know how you go.

Will certainly let you know.

Will certainly let you know.
Any piece of electronic equipment can break at any time really. And they do regardless of the stringest quality control systems. To me, that's secondary. How the service will deal with this problem is really what's important. How much you can rely on their skill and professialism is what really matters to the user.

In the mean time, as a professional photographer I do trust you have back up equipment. for just these kinds of occurances.

Good luck, I certainly hope your problem will be resolved in a timely manner to your satisfaction.
