The 'optional' lens hood is a must
The 'optional' lens hood is a must

The M.Zuiko 9-18mm is a very nice, good UWA Zoom. Its outstanding strength is its small size and weight. DPreview has reviewed the lens, there isn't much to add. The first point I would like to add is that this lens shows its good performance also with current M4/3 caneras, in my case the Panasonic GX7. The images are sharp, even at 100% crop over most of the image area. Corners lag a little behind, especially at 9mm and wide open. To be fair, for most subjects this isn't a show stopper and corners are the weak point of most UWA lenses around. Contrast could be slightly better, but can be easily tweaked by post processing or camera settings.
DPreview praises the flare resistance of this lens. It is true that the lens responds very well to light sources within the frame. But it is very sensitive to lateral stray light, leading to 'milky' pictures. The lens hood is therefore a must and even then you have to be careful with lateral light sources. A shame that the lens hood has to be bought separately.
