The next challenge is titled "The Great Outdoors." UPDATED: now open for all locations.

Apparently the US Southwest seems too limited in its scope, given the international audience of this forum. So, due to popular demand (thank you also for those you PMd me on this topic), I am expanding the challenge and am making it about the great outdoors.

Show us the natural beauty of the place of your choosing, and we'll forgive you for not having visited the Southwest proper.

Color, B&W, infrared; landscape or people... anything goes. Bonus points for atypical shots, that is to say off the beaten path.

This challenge will run until Tuesday, September 9th, at midnight UTC. Thanks for participating, and good luck!

=================================

Challenge rules:

1. Enter photos: 'Entry' to Win, or 'Exhibition' to Show.

2. Entries to Win: up to 3 Shots.

3. Exhibitions to Show: are encouraged and unlimited. Put the word Exhibition in the Header of your post if you do not want to be chosen as the next host. If you post more than 3 photos, label entries and exhibitions clearly. If you leave shots unlabeled, the first three in your post will be eligible to be chosen as winners.

4. Photos from any camera taken at any time. Also encouraged (not required): a title, a story, description of conditions, settings, post processing, etc. so we can all learn what works and what doesn't.

5. Submitting photos: for clarity, it is best to reply to this original post, (rather than under someone else’s post), and to change the subject line of your post to suit your images.

6. Comments on other people's photos definitely add to the fun, the comments may be the best prize.

7. Host will select and announce the winners at the end date. 1st, 2nd, 3rd Place winners will be chosen, (as well as some honorable mentions if the host wants to).

8. 1st Place Winner Hosts the next Mini-Challenge. Pick a theme; start a new thread; give a description and some samples of what you have in mind; copy and paste, change the end date (and tweak the rules a little bit if you wish).

9. 2nd Place Winner becomes the host if the 1st place winner requests that for any reason.

Yep count me too in your club too :-) - never even been to the states let alone the US SW

I could change the colour temp of an alpen scene and call it the South West ;-) ?

Never mind. All the more time to comment on the entries and get out and take some more piccies!

that this topic might exclude some of us?

John,

I thought that the Southwest was a pretty popular destination for folks the world over. Be that as it may, and as Bill mentioned in his post below, all challenges don't necessarily apply to all people - there were quite a few posted by others to which I had nothing to contribute. I certainly didn't purposely aim it to be exclusionary, and, to quote Bill yet again, it'll only be for a week anyway.

Cheers,

Nick

You could run this up to never before reached total number of entries.

Where u going? After last trip, which cameras are going with you?

just an idea,

my first theme, was under 5mp shots, I didn't realize that excluded so many people, it does reduce the family members so to speak.

Perhaps others could post other 'grand geographic locations' 'unusual natural formations' shots, I would enjoy seeing more international terrain and it seems to fit your theme.

I posted a follow-up and made it about the great outdoors, no matter the geographical location. I wish I could update the title of the original post, but alas I don't seem to be able to do so.

So guys and gals, from near or afar, feel free to enter anything as long as it's in the spirit of the original challenge but of different places.

I Love all of the West! Getting ready to go to Sedona for a Fall shoot.

I also love Zion!
