D70 or D70s?

Hi i'm interested in buying a used D70. I've used one at work before and really liked the image quality and it's grain from the sensor, especially at long exposures.

Should I buy a 70s? I know it has better battery life and a better AF, but is it exactly the same sensor and imaging engine? That is very important for me - to know I can get very similar images as I'm used to.

My only other thought is that there might have been a slightly better model at the same time as the D70 was made but with a similar image quality. Around 2005? What was the next model up in price, please?

Thanks for you input.
