There are a few things, Program mode is selecting Aperture and shutter based on the light meter, likely what it is doing is selecting a low aperture which will cause the focus area to be smaller then you would have on the point and shoot.

the Sensor in a point and shoot is very small which means it's focal plane is very large, on a NX the sensor is much larger which means the aperture is much bigger and so the focal plane is smaller.

so taking the camera out of program and putting it in A mode, auto ISO will solve this for you... the larger the Aperture number (f number) the large your focal plane will be and the sharper the image will be (less softness)

as has been mentioned f8 - f12 is the range you should be looking for. If it is too dark, then lower the f number.
